Learning to Drive
Learning to drive will give you independence, freedom and enjoyment. It can also help open the door to new job opportunities and help you spread your wings into adulthood. It can also give you new challenges.
One challenge that some people experience when learning to drive is the theory test and the theory of driving. How can you be safe on the road if you don’t know the theory behind driving?
Checking you can reach your goals
Before beginning the process of learning, Herts Ability will offer a short assessment to understand what requirements an individual has. This will involve a few questions regarding background, educational needs and any anxieties you may have and include some of the theory test knowledge questions. It doesn’t matter if you get these questions wrong (you haven’t started learning yet). All we want to see is how you work things out, and problem solve. We’ll then be able to tailor our support to you, the individual.
Support and Training
At Herts Ability, we have a team of highly trained Approved Driving Instructors, supported by Occupational Therapists who can offer one-to-one or small group sessions tailored to the individual.
With the expertise and knowledge of the driving instructor combined with an Occupational Therapist’s holistic approach, it is possible that a new approach can be found to help you, the individual.
Theory Test Support
Herts Ability will guide you through every step of the theory test, learning how to interpret the questions and simplifying the troublesome ones, finding a way to help you remember the guidance laid out in the Highway Code and assisting with how to achieve a pass with hazard perception. Once you have reached the required standard, the Herts Ability staff will help you book a theory test and assist in organising any special requirements on the day.
One – to – One Training
Herts Ability can organise one-to-one training at the Welwyn Garden City Centre, within the comfort of a small office or conference room. You’ll be made to feel welcome and comfortable, and all learning will be at a pace that will suit you.
On occasion, one-to-one training can be organised to take place in your home, for your comfort. Again, this will be at a pace to suit you. All we ask is that anyone under the age of 18 or any vulnerable individuals have a chaperone.
Small Group Training
Using a comfortable conference room, Herts Ability can offer training for groups of two – five people. This would always be organised and discussed in advance, and all participants will be at a similar standard and have similar requirements.
Small Group Training for Schools and Organisations
Herts Ability is always happy to attend your school or organisation to support small groups with the theory test. All we ask for is a quiet room and, if possible, the assistance of a member of your staff. All of the Herts Ability staff hold an enhanced DBS and, of course, are happy for you to conduct your own checks.
Please note that all staff have valid DBS checks in place.
