Welcome to Herts Ability

We are pleased to confirm that our driving centre has re-opened. You can still book or discuss an assessment by emailing driving@hertsability.org.uk

We've worked hard to ensure the assessment process is as safe as possible for our clients and staff; this includes all clients and staff wearing face masks, which we will provide, throughout the assessment.

We look forward to seeing you!

Shiny Happy Herts are Waving – not shakin’ hands! πŸ‘‹

It’s Friday, so we’ve got the jazz hands out, but, of course, we know this is a challenging time for all. We can’t pretend to know all the answers, but we know that the safety of colleagues and loved ones should be paramount in these testing times.

So, to all our friends and followers, we hope you have a good weekend and you stay safe.πŸ‘ P.S. We’ve even included a song sheet to "Bring Me Sunshine" in the hope it’ll make you smile… who says washing hands can’t be fun?! πŸ™Œ

Testimonial Tuesday! 😷✍️🧑 "Driving has been my route to freedom!"

After having an above knee amputation, Hertfordshire’s Angie Phythian was told that it was unlikely she would walk again and she’d be required to use a wheelchair for mobility. Since then she’s had three goals: to have a bath; to drive; and to swim in the sea! Angie’s now completed all three! Congratulations on your route to freedom – we wish you lots of success for the future!

Angie had this to say about the service she received from us:

"I have really enjoyed the process and have learnt so much! I have gained my independence. I had been told I would never walk again so being able to walk with crutches and now drive is a huge change for me, I’m so happy!"

We provide professional, clinically-led driving and mobility assessments for individuals who have restricted mobility. Our Centre has outreach facilities in South Oxhey, Dunstable and Harlow, bringing the service close to where people live – all focused on helping people with disabilities or life-changing diagnosis to continue driving safely.

If you would like to book an assessment or would like more information on how an assessment can benefit you, please call us on 01707 384 263 or email driving@hertsability.org.uk

Here’s our helpful Adaptations In Action video containing useful tips on driving controls! If you have a physical impairment and you want to try driving with a different method of vehicle control, you will be given the opportunity to drive vehicles fitted with adaptations.

We have several vehicles fitted with different adaptations and it might be appropriate for you to try driving more than one vehicle. Also, if a client has mobility equipment, such as a scooter or powered wheelchair, it may be that they would like to load it effortlessly into their car or another vehicle.

We can offer assessments which will examine the suitability of a vehicle for hoists or other equipment and will provide expert advice and guidance on the best way forward towards a cost-effective and safe solution.

As always Herts Ability are happy to help with any request you have… our aim is to help YOU get back on road. please call us on 01707 384 263 or email driving@hertsability.org.uk for more info!

Get Involved

Herts Ability could not exist without support from the local community and valued volunteers

volunteers

We are always looking for volunteers on a regular or occasional basis. We have expansion plans throughout the whole organisation but we need your help to turn our dreams into reality.

fundraising ideas

Run an event where you have all the fun with your friends and family, whilst supporting HAD and all the work we do for disabled and older people. We will help you with tickets, posters, leaflets and even ideas about events you could hold.

events

Come and join us at an organised HAD fundraising event. They are always relaxed and fun so we promise you won’t be disappointed!

donations

By using Gift Aid you can make your donation worth more. For every pound you give to us, we get an extra 25 pence from the Inland Revenue.
