On the 19th May, Herts Ability invited members of the public, healthcare professionals, driving instructors, local councils, emergency services and local organisations to come and find out more about their services and how they support individuals living with disabilities.
Their team of Driving Instructors and Occupational Therapists showcased these services alongside a selection of specialist accessible vehicles and mobility products from experienced and professional suppliers.
The Hertfordshire charity also had the pleasure and privilege of celebrating this successful day with two public figures!
Celebrity ‘daredevil’ Jonathan Goodwin, who reached the finals of Britain’s Got Talent 2019, was accompanied by his fiancée Amanda Abbington, a successful actress famed for her roles in Sherlock and Mr Selfridge.
Amanda trialled various adaptations – including push/pull hand controls and Herts Ability’s new high-tech Space Drive vehicle – to gain an insight into what it’s like for Jonathan, who was recently declared ‘Fit to Drive’ thanks to the help and support of Herts Ability.
Amanda had this to say about her experience: “The adaptations were amazing! It was important to witness first hand how Herts Ability makes these vehicles so accessible for people so they can get back on the road again!”
Indeed, both professional and public visitors gained valuable knowledge regarding adapted driving and WAVs (wheelchair-accessible vehicles) and equipment for travelling safely as a passenger, either for themselves or for clients.

Regarding his experience with Herts Ability, Jonathan said: “I recently took my driving assessment so that I can drive an adapted vehicle using hand controls. Herts Ability does an incredible job in getting people safely back on the road. I can’t recommend them highly enough!”
