Herts Ability’s Hubs Lead Jenny Burgess (pictured) has recently been trialling a Travel Support Scheme which has been set up in the Welwyn Hatfield area with the aim to give those with disabilities the confidence to travel independently!
With the aid of Age UK, mental health charities and a local community centre manager, the word was spread and soon our Travel Support Scheme had its first client – Lee.
Lee has a learning disability and has previously had to rely on his mum to take him to the places that he wants to go.
After spending some time with those at the Travel Support Scheme, Lee was finally able to make his first independent journey and is even now in the process of learning journeys to more of his favourite destinations.
The Travel Support Scheme is available to any adult as long as they are physically and cognitively able to travel independently.
