Here’s six simple steps to protect yourself and your family on the internet, not just on Safer Internet Day, but every day…
1) Protect your email by using a strong and separate password!
If you have re-used your email password across other accounts, change your email password as soon as possible. It should be strong and different to all your other accounts
2) Install the latest software and app updates!
Software and app updates contain vital security updates to help protect your devices from cyber criminals
3) Turn on 2-step verification (2SV)!
2-step verification is recommended to help protect your online accounts
4) Password managers!
Using a password manager can help you create and remember passwords. This allows you to use unique, strong passwords for all your important accounts
5) Backing up your data!
Safeguard your most important data, such as your photos and key documents, by backing them up to an external hard drive or a cloud-based storage system
6) Three random words!
Use three random words to create a single password that’s difficult to crack. The longer and more unusual your password is, the harder it is for a cyber criminal to crack
Bonus Tip! 💡 Keep the stream safe!
Always double-check the format of the URL and spelling of the company name before you download anything. Fake sites may look like the real thing, but there will be anomalies that will help you spot the difference. Avoid clicking on links or downloading files that promise pre-screen viewings of blockbuster movies or television shows
