Herts Ability Plays Vital Role in Road Safety Event

In the journey of someone’s recovery post-medical treatment or diagnosis, community nursing plays a pivotal role. These dedicated professionals cover extensive distances to assist individuals recently discharged from hospitals, heavily relying on their driving proficiency.

In response to a concerning surge in collisions (including a tragic fatality during the 2021/2022 period) the East London Foundation NHS Trust sought guidance from the Bedfordshire Road Safety Partnership.

Herts Ability proudly continues its longstanding support for the Bedfordshire Road Safety Partnership. Indeed, we were happy to release Lead Assessor James to share his expertise with all things driving, especially in a rural environment.

Community nurses and care assistants across Bedfordshire generously volunteered their time to participate in a workshop held at Steppingley Hospital.

During the session, they engaged in interactive discussions covering various driving topics, including rural driving, handling adverse weather conditions, vehicle maintenance, managing fatigue, and emergency protocols.

Moreover, participants had the opportunity to immerse themselves in a virtual reality (VR) experience, crafted by road safety specialists nationwide!

This training initiative remains an ongoing endeavour for the nursing team, with another session slated for April this year. Collaborating closely with the road safety partnership, Herts Ability remains steadfast in its commitment to supporting NHS nurses in their mission to serve local communities!
