You have not been forgotten! Herts Ability is supporting National Fibromyalgia Awareness Day on 12th May 2024. Living with Fibromyalgia can make daily tasks difficult, exhausting and sometimes impossible. Understandably, many people living with Fibromyalgia are concerned about losing the independence that driving can bring.
Did you know?
- Fibromyalgia, also called fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS), is a long-term condition that causes pain all over the body.
- Anyone can develop fibromyalgia, but it’s more common in women than men.
- Some estimates suggest nearly 1 in 20 people may be affected by fibromyalgia to some degree.
- The condition typically develops between the ages of 25 and 55, but people of any age can get it, including children and older people.
Herts Ability is on hand to support your ongoing independence.
For those who are concerned about driving, an initial assessment with one of our expert caring teams is recommended.
During the assessment, we’ll look at different ways of managing your Fibromyalgia symptoms whilst driving. We’ll work with you to understand what causes you concern and help you develop a new way of driving. Herts Ability has a fleet of modern, dual controlled vehicles, fitted with a wide range of adaptations to help you drive as comfortably as possible.
Once your assessment is complete, a short programme of tuition might be needed to gain confidence in your new way of driving. The Herts Ability Driving School could help with this. Our highly trained DVSA driving instructors will be on hand to support you during this period.
For those days when driving isn’t an option for you, maybe a Mobility Scooter could help? Our clinically led assessments can help identify which scooter suits your needs best.
And for days when driving and scooters simply are not possible, The Herts Ability Hubs Mobility Advice Service will be on hand to help you get around.
Herts Ability has you covered! All you need to do is get in touch for ongoing support.
