Herts Ability finds hi-tech solution for Ryan!

Live from our private off-road track in Harlow! Herts Ability was happy to assist 22 year old Ryan – who has the condition hereditary motor and sensory neuropathy which causes weakness in the ankles, foot and hands – with a hi-tech solution to suit his driving needs!

Here’s what Ryan had to say about the experience and the service we provided…

“As I’m heading into full-time work it is essential that I gain more independence, learning how to drive with the right adaptive equipment is a huge step towards me being independent.

My advice to anyone with an impairment is to have a go and step outside your comfort zone, you will be surprised what you can achieve!

Thank you to the Herts Ability team for making me feel comfortable in the car throughout my driving assessment.”

Fun fact! 🎓Ryan graduated from the University of East London in 2022, studying Sports Coaching and Performance degree: “My dream is to be a sport’s coach at an elite level and continue making a positive impact in my community.”

Did you know? 🤔We recently added a new high-tech wheelchair accessible vehicle (WAV) to our fleet of adapted vehicles, which is now enabling more people with a limited range of movement to drive safely!

The vehicle contains lightened power steering, push/pull hand controls, an Autoadapt wheelchair hoist and an electronically adjustable driver’s seat.

This is all part of the service offered by Herts Ability!

Our teams are always on hand to support, advise and recommend!

If you need any advice on our driving services and how we can give you back your independence behind the wheel, please do get in touch via email at driving@hertsability.org.uk or by phone on 01707 324 581
