On Thursday 21st March our Lead Driving Assessor James and Occupational Therapist Sarah took part in the Driving Mobility driving safety assessment scheme (powerchair and scooters) accredited by the Department for Transport.
The scheme is intended to improve the assessment process and safety of users and Herts Ability were at the forefront of developing and promoting the scheme – our CEO Sean Lawrence was even invited to the House of Lords to help launch the scheme.
James and Sarah are now fully trained and approved by the Department of Transport and Driving Mobility after completing their Powered Wheelchair and Mobility Scooter Retailer Training Course. This means that they are approved to be able to assess each individual customer in order to suggest the correct product for their needs. Herts Ability is also approved to give valuable safety training to our customers before driving their scooter away.
Well done team Herts Ability and thanks to all who took part in the successful training from our home in Welwyn Garden City!

Driving Mobility provides a customer assessment and safety training scheme for retailers of mobility scooters and powered wheelchairs.
Why will your business benefit?
Retailers who complete the course will receive a certificate and eye-catching window sticker. These will provide a clear indication that the business has completed training that’s officially accredited by Driving Mobility and the Department for Transport. Your customers will then be given confidence they are purchasing mobility scooters and powerchairs from a reputable retailer who has received clinically-led training for better assessment of their needs.
