A diagnosis of Dementia will come with many challenges, both for the individual with the diagnosis and their family and friends. One of the common questions is “can I still drive”? This can be answered following a full driving assessment with Herts Ability. Here’s everything you need to know…
First of all, you must inform the DVLA of your diagnosis. The report from your driving assessment can help with this.
What can you expect during your driving assessment? Let’s make a few things clear!
- It is definitely not a driving test
- Herts Ability thrives to support your on-going independence
- You will be treated with care and supported whatever the outcome
During your driving assessment, our Occupational Therapist and Specialist Approved Driving Instructor simply need to see safe driving. They are not interested in any habits you have, as long as the drive is safe.
Once the driving assessment is over, you’ll get a full written report. This can be shared with the DVLA. Herts Ability will support you all the way. We’ll help you plan for the time when driving becomes too difficult. The Herts Ability team is there to support you, every step of the way!
