Meet Alfie, a resilient individual who had a brain tumour and a stroke in 2021, leading to challenges like fatigue, reduced attention, slower processing speed, executive function difficulties, left-sided weakness, and ataxia. Despite these obstacles, Alfie’s determination never wavered, as you’re about to find out!
After his discharge from the hospital and the community ABI team, Alfie was referred to us for a fitness-to-drive assessment to aid in his return to driving.
During his assessment with us, Alfie demonstrated remarkable improvement! He did well in the cognitive testing, showing significant progress compared to the previous year during his rehabilitation.
Handling the steering with both hands and navigating the track in Harlow effortlessly, he also completed two reverse parking manoeuvres and one forward parking task with ease. The assessors were delighted with his performance and the strides he has made on his road to recovery.
We are looking forward to seeing Alfie back for an on-road assessment once he feels prepared to resume driving. Following refresher tuition to boost his confidence after his extended break from driving, we aim to support him on his journey back to driving independently.
Alfie’s story embodies resilience, progress, and the power of determination. We are honoured to be part of his journey and look forward to aiding more individuals like Alfie on their path to driving!
