Happy Occupational Therapy Week 2024 from Herts Ability

Happy Occupational Therapy Week 2024 from Herts Ability

We are thrilled to celebrate #OTWeek2024, running from 4th to 10th November. This special week is a time to highlight the invaluable role Occupational Therapy (OT) plays in the recovery and ongoing management of people’s health conditions. It’s also an opportunity to shine the spotlight on our dedicated occupational therapists here at Herts Ability and the profound impact they have on the lives of our clients.

The Vital Role of Occupational Therapy

At Herts Ability, we’re deeply grateful for our amazing occupational therapists who help people maintain or regain their independence. Occupational therapists (OTs) are crucial in assessing and supporting individuals with a range of health conditions, ensuring they have the tools and skills they need to lead fulfilling lives.

🗣 “At Herts Ability, we would not be able to function without our wonderful OTs. Long gone are the days when they just used to ride along in the back of a car. Our OTs look for ways to enable ongoing independence, often finding solutions that empower our clients. They have the unique ability to build on what a person can already do, expanding their abilities and boosting their confidence. Working alongside them is truly inspiring!” – Driving Assessor, James

Meet Our Brilliant Occupational Therapists: Jane, Sarah & Ayo!

We are fortunate to have two fantastic OTs, Sarah and Jane, as part of our team. Here’s what they had to say about their experience at Herts Ability:

🗣 Jane: “I have loved the last six years working in this field and at Herts Ability! Identifying what a driver requires – both physically and cognitively – to drive safely is so important.”

🗣 Sarah: “I love being an OT as I enjoy helping whomever I am working with to maximise their potential and quality of life. OTs are a vital part of helping those who wish to pursue driving to have the opportunity to do so. OTs also help look at alternative forms of mobility for all ages using adaptations and equipment to support independence. If someone has a newly diagnosed medical condition OT’s can help them to adjust to driving in a different way, and for some to prepare for retirement from driving.”

🗣 Ayo: “I love the fact that as an Occupational Therapist I am able to work with a variety of clients from all different ages and all different walks of life. I love how occupational therapy gives life to years, helping people to maintain their independence and continue to do activities.”

 The Importance of Occupational Therapy

OTs do more than just help people drive – they support individuals in maintaining their overall well-being. Occupational deprivation, or the inability to engage in meaningful activities, can lead to poor health, increased stress, and feelings of isolation. That’s why OT is such a vital profession, helping people find purpose and regain control over their lives.

Remember, driving is also an occupation! It’s a key activity that allows for independence, social connection, and access to essential services.
