Congratulations to Leonard Callow!

Herts Ability is proud to announce that our client Leonard Callow is now ‘Fit to Drive’ after using the adaptations outlined by our Assessors. Here’s how Leonard’s road to independence was achieved…

Firstly, thank you for taking your assessment with Herts Ability. How did you find out about us?

Initially I enquired about driving tuition for hand controls from Motability, and your name was put forward.

How did your assessment go?

My assessment went very well! It was comprehensive, covering all likely road types; from dual carriageway to town and country.

What did you think of your instructor?

My instructor was very good: The lessons were very informative and everything was fully explained.

Please could you tell us more about the experience…

Using foot pedals was a whole new experience. My concentration level stepped up, I was of course nervous at first, but soon gained confidence. I then began to enjoy the new method of control. My Assessors were excellent!

Please could you tell us more about your own personal journey behind the wheel…

I started driving in 1972. Throughout my career I have driven ambulances and buses.

In 1994 I was having bad back pain and sciatica. I was scanned and was told I had prolapsed discs.

In 1996 I was diagnosed with a heart attack.

Subsequently, I developed diabetes and then diabetic neuropathy.

I started to lose the feeling in my feet, and sometimes my foot would slip off the accelerator, I easily remedied this, but I started to get concerned, so I made enquiries about hand controls. I knew I would need to do something about it so I went to Herts Ability.

Any final words?

I would not hesitate to recommend Herts Ability. They are very friendly and professional and made me feel welcome at all times.
Did you know? Herts Ability has a fleet of dual controlled vehicles with a range of driving and transfer adaptations

Every vehicle is fitted with dual controls for safety and insurance purposes and all assessments take place in a dual controlled car.

A client can use their own (or an instructor’s vehicle) if it is fitted with dual controls.

As always Herts Ability is happy to help with any request you have.

Our aim is to help YOU get back on the road!
