What’s the story? Eleanor’s Glory!

Massive congratulations to Herts Ability client Eleanor Dalley… She’s now ‘Fit to Drive’! Here’s Eleanor’s story: From adaptations to driving success!

Ms Dalley attended Herts Ability for an assessment in November 2022 due to her concerns about using her feet to drive in the conventional manner.

She reported reduced strength, coordination and ankle range of movement.

In light of her expressed concerns, she was advised by the assessors not to drive at all using her feet.

After a brief cognitive assessment with our team she then trialled right side mounted push-pull hand controls and steering using a ball with her left hand.

Eleanor was then advised to seek tuition using the new method of control.

On Friday 17th March 2023, she returned for her follow up assessment having taken 12 hours of professional tuition…

… What a transformation!

Eleanor was confident as she drove using the push-pull controls, which she operated smoothly.

After completing the full standardised assessment route, the assessors were delighted to inform her that she had successfully passed as she had met the safe standard, demonstrating sound cognitive and physical control abilities.

Ms Dalley now plans to source a vehicle and have the adaptations fitted as soon as possible to enable her to return to independent driving.

Congratulations, Eleanor, from all the team at Herts Ability!
