Acquiring a brain injury, through illness or trauma can change the way you physically or cognitively function.
Many people experiencing an acquired or traumatic brain injury will have a long recovery period but they often desire the independence they had previously.
One way to regain that independence is through a driving assessment with Herts Ability.
Our Occupational Therapists will check out your cognitive and physical function. With that knowledge, the Herts Ability Specialist Driving Instructors will help you form a plan for returning to driving.
You might need physical adaptations to help you control a car or, it could be that a simple tweak to your driving style is all that’s needed.
Following your injury, you might not drive for a long period. Often, driving lessons are recommended to help you regain your confidence and competence behind the wheel.
The expert driving instructors at Herts Ability could help there. With their knowledge of medical conditions, they are well placed to support you every step of the way.
If driving isn’t an option or, if you want someone else to transport you, the Herts Ability Hubs Mobility Advice Service could help plan those all-important journeys. Not just for medical appointments but also for your day to day living and independence.
Herts Ability are on hand to support you, every step of the way!
Here’s what our recent client Chris had to say:
“I passed my test at 21, and was involved in a RTA as a pedestrian, then spent six months in hospital and a further two and a half years recovering.
I tried behind the wheel but needed some refresher lessons, so I received 10 hours of brilliant tuition and rebuilt my confidence then passed my assessment.
It wasn’t easy, and it feels like a long road. A long road to understanding your difficulties, and then learning to overcome them. But you can do it, as I have!
I would absolutely recommend Herts Ability; they’re incredibly knowledgeable, accommodating, and friendly.”
